Gatekeeper Trainings

Become a Certified Gatekeeper!

A Gatekeeper is anyone in a position who could be approached in a suicidal crisis but who typically is not trained to intervene in such situations.
Gatekeeper trainings are for those who want to feel more comfortable, confident and competent in helping to prevent the risk of suicide.

This training teaches people:

  • how to recognize individuals who are at potential suicide risk
  • how to intervene
  • how to refer them on to professional counseling
  • Gatekeepers are given information that is easy to understand, along with methods to encourage a person to get help, and suicide prevention resources. For further information or questions, please call Carrie Martin at 301.314.8112 or email cmartin@health.umd.edu.

Participants must RSVP to Zeeger@health.umd.edu or 301.314.1493 prior to the training session.
