How to use this website

If it isn't clear yet, you should probably know that this website represents the University Health Center (abbr. UHC) at the University of Maryland, College Park. This website is a resource for members of the University of Maryland community to learn about the many services and programs that the University Health Center has to offer. If you do not attend the University of Maryland, then this website may still be useful in terms of general medical knowledge.

If you're having trouble using this website, you should first learn how to get around. To do this, you will need to use:

The menu bar

The menu bar is brightly color-coded for your convenience, organizing the University Health Center's knowledge into five main categories (General Information, Services, Programs, Forms, and Resources).

Menus

Moving your mouse over any of these will bring up a menu which lists all topics within its category. For example, mousing over Services will bring up a menu containing a list of all the Services offered at the UHC. These items are listed alphabetically.

If you're not sure where to go, you can click on the button itself. (See above for examples of buttons.) This will take you to a page listing all the items within that category alphabetically. A short description is provided for each item.

Below is an example of the menu that appears when you hover your mouse over General Info:

Returning to the homepage

A quick way to get back to the Health Center's homepage (www.health.umd.edu) is to click on the “University Health Center” found at the top left of the screen. The “www.health.umd.edu” above the menu bar also performs this function.

Of course, your browser allows you to return to the homepage any number of ways: the back button, the address bar, bookmarks, and so forth.

Example: Returning to the homepage

Click on one of the following:

University Health Center Find this at the top left on every page.

www.health.umd.edu Find this above the menu bar at the top of every page.

There is also a link to the homepage at the bottom of every page in the footer.

Sidebar “Links”

On the sidebar on the left side of the screen, you will sometimes see a light blue box titled “Links”. Links listed here are directly related to the page you are viewing. For instance, if you go to Women's Health, this box will provide links to Fees, Eligibility, Insurance, the Emergency Contraceptive Pill, and more. Links listed here usually "jump" to a specific point in the text of the current web page, but this is not necessarily always the case.

Note: On the Health Center's homepage, the “Links” box is replaced by the “Updates” box. The “Updates” box displays headline news about the Health Center. You can click on any of these headlines to jump to that news item, or you may simply click the “Updates” title to go directly to the news page.

Example: Links

Links.
Links are listed here.

Use the links found in boxes like this one to jump to information directly related to the page you're viewing. This information can be found on the left hand side of the screen.

Sometimes this box is not present. This means there is no information that needs to be linked to--you can find everything you need in the main body of the page.

The homepage

The homepage will always display the hours of operation for the University Health Center, as well as provide the phone number to make appointments. (Appointments are required at the Health Center, excepting emergency situations.)

On the left there is a light blue box labeled “Updates” which headlines the latest health-related news for the University of Maryland community. Clicking on a headline will jump you to that news item. Clicking “Updates” itself will bring you to the news page.

Note: The “Updates” box exists only on the homepage. On other pages within this website, this box is replaced by “Links” (see above) or may not be present if there are no pertinent links.

The homepage will also display any important news regarding the Health Center (such as closing for inclement weather), or anything deemed of higher importance than the usual news listed in the “Updates” section. back to top
