The principal objective of the laboratory is to provide consistently accurate and diagnostically meaningful test information to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of Health Center patients. Moderate and complex testing are performed by qualified Medical Technologists. Qualified Medical Technologists also, oversee and supervise less complex testing services.

The laboratory processes a wide variety of test requests. Some tests are performed in the UHC laboratory and some are sent out to a designated reference laboratories. There are charges for most laboratory tests.

Obtaining a Laboratory Test

You will need to bring a written order from a member of the UHC staff to the laboratory. The order will be written on a UHC laboratory requisition. If you have an order from a physician who is not a member of the UHC staff, the request will be transcribed onto a UHC laboratory requisition by a member of the UHC staff.

Some tests require dietary restrictions or special preparation. The laboratory staff will discuss your test with you and let you know if any special preparations are involved. You may be required to schedule an appointment to have your test performed at a later date in order for you and/or the laboratory staff to prepare for the test.

Laboratory test results are obtained from the ordering provider (a member of the UHC staff) and students are routinely notified when results are abnormal. back to top
