Traditional acupuncture is offered by licensed acupuncturists. Each session lasts for 60 minutes.

After Hours NurseLine

The After Hours NurseLine is available when the University Health Center is closed or when hours vary due to semester breaks, summer sessions, holidays, severe weather, or other emergency closings. The “After Hours NurseLine” is staffed with a team of experienced registered nurses who can provide information, support and education for many health-related questions or concerns.

The Health Center's hours of operation are from 8am until 7pm (Monday – Friday), 11am until 3pm (Saturday) and closed on Sunday.

Allergy Clinic

The Allergy Clinic administers allergy injections to students under the direction of their allergist or other physician. Initial allergy testing is not performed at the Health Center. Allergy injections are administered by appointment.

The hours for the Allergy Clinic during the fall and spring semesters are as follows:

  • Monday: 8:30am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm
  • Thursday: 8:30am - 12pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Summer Hours

  • Tuesday: 8:30am - 12:00pm
  • Thursday: 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Dental Health Unit

The Dental Health Unit at the University Health Center is a satellite clinic of the University of Maryland, Baltimore Dental School, fully accredited with the American Dental Association. The Dental Health Unit can be found on Ground Floor, Room 0170. Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:30am - 5:00pm. Please have your name, contact number and University ID ready when scheduling an appointment.

Cost varies with procedure. Payment is made by check or credit card. Insurance accepted.

Eating Disorders Treatment

We offer treatment for Eating Disorders, designed to diagnose and treat students with anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorders. This service offers individual counseling, support groups, nutritional guidance, and medical supervision to students with problems of eating or body image.

Emergency Contraception

The Emergency Contraception Pill (ECP) is available on a walk-in basis during all hours of operation. Please note that the ECP must be taken within 120 hours of unprotected intercourse, and there should have been only one episode of unprotected intercourse in the last menstrual cycle.

There is a charge for the ECP.

The ECP was formerly known as the “Morning After Pill” (“MAP”).

HIV Antibody Testing

We offer HIV antibody testing. Appointments are not necessary. Walk-In anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to be tested. There is a charge for this service.

Immunizations

We offer routine immunizations such as MMR, Meningitis, Tetanus/Diphtheria, and tuberculosis skin testing. Hepatitis B, Chicken Pox, and Flu vaccines are also available.

Please note that the Medical History and Immunization Form is required to attend the University of Maryland.

International Travel Clinic

The International Travel Clinic (ITC) is able to provide international travelers with necessary immunizations, medications, and medical supplies. The ITC has up-to-the-minute, worldwide information about health and travel conditions from the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the State Department. Charges are payable when services are rendered.

Laboratory

Our laboratory processes a wide variety of test requests. Some tests are performed in the Laboratory and some are sent out to a designated reference laboratories. There are charges for most laboratory tests, but some tests are free.

Medical Records

A confidential medical record is established and maintained for every patient who receives care at the Health Center. Separate records are maintained for Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse Programs, and HIV testing. Information is released only with your written permission, upon a court ordered subpoena, or in a life threatening situation. If you are 18 years or over, information cannot be released even to your parents without your permission, except in aforementioned circumstances.

Mental Health Services

Mental Health Services helps registered students with depression, panic and anxiety disorders, and other psychological problems by providing psychiatric evaluations. Mental Health services include: diagnostic assessments; group and short-term individual psychotherapy; couples and family therapy; crisis intervention, assessment and treatment of some sexual problems; and medication evaluation, treatment, and follow-up. Occupational Health

The Occupational Health Office develops and implements medical surveillance programs for those employees working with hazardous agents and offers lectures on health and safety topics. This office is also responsible for pre-employment physicals for some campus departments, return to work evaluations, and fitness for duty exams. The Occupational Health Office is located in Room 0106, on the ground floor of the University Health Center.

Orthopedics/Sports Medicine

Providers are available to evaluate painful conditions related to muscles, bones, and joints, and to help you develop a rehabilitation program to fit your condition and specific needs. During the school year an orthopedic surgeon is available by appointment at a reduced rate several times a month. There is a charge for this service.

Generally, patients see the Sports Medicine Physician or Physician Assistant initially, and then may be referred as needed to our Orthopedic Surgeon.

Pharmacy

Our Pharmacy carries a full line of prescription and over-the-counter medications. The pharmacy accepts cash, checks, many prescription plans, Mastercard, Discover, and Visa, or bill your purchases to your student account. The Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (excluding University holidays and closings).

Physical Therapy

You may be referred to physical therapy by your Health Center physician or by your private physician as a part of your rehabilitation program. Pregnancy Testing

Pregnancy tests are offered through Women's Health. Urine (preferably first morning urine) or blood tests can be performed. Please call Women's Health at (301) 314-8190 for instructions first. Results are not given over the phone. To make an appointment call (301) 314-8190. There is a lab fee for the test.

Substance Abuse Treatment

A state-certified Addictions Treatment Program is available specifically to treat college students experiencing problems related to their use of alcohol and/or other drugs. The program includes individual and group counseling; 12-step meetings (AA and/or NA); education; an exercise and nutrition program; and medical supervision. There is a charge for this service.

Urgent Care

Urgent Care is available for students with urgent medical needs, and is open weekdays, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Emergencies such as bleeding, severe shortness of breath and/or chest pain, do not require appointments and are seen in Urgent Care. Students who are seriously ill or injured may be sent to the emergency department of a local hospital. There are charges for many urgent care services.

Women's Health

Women's Health provides routine pelvic exams, Pap smears, contraception, treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy testing and counseling, and emergency contraceptive pills. There is a charge for this service.
