S.H.A.R.E. Program
("Sexual Health and Reproductive Education")
About S.H.A.R.E.:
Making decisions about being sexually active at college in the new millennium is a very different ball game than it used to be.
When you consider Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI's), HIV, and unintended pregnancy, you remember what a complicated issue
sexual health really is. There are also issues for those who decide to remain abstinent, trying to do so in an atmosphere that
sometimes does not seem to support that decision. The S.H.A.R.E. Peer Program is designed to help students address their sexual health
with as much information and insight as possible.
Outreach Programing:
The S.H.A.R.E. Program provides the campus community with a non-judgmental, supportive message about safer sex and reproductive health.
Outreach programming is provided to classrooms, the residence halls, the Greek community, and other campus organizations. Our most popular
program is a safer sex workshop which helps students explore sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, from a behavioral perspective.
We also offer a contraception workshop that provides information on all available methods of birth control. This workshop often includes
information on the pap smear and pelvic exam. Typically each program is 1 1/2 hours, but both length and content can be tailored to meet your group's
needs.

How to Make a Request:
If you are interested in scheduling a S.H.A.R.E. program, click here to fill out our online form.
Please have the following information ready: the group you represent, topic of your program: safer sex or contraception, desired date of program
and time, location where you plan to hold the program, and anticipated size of your audience. To ensure that we will be able to fill your request,
try to schedule your program two weeks in advance.
How to Become a S.H.A.R.E. Peer Educator:
Each Spring we recruit students to become S.H.A.R.E. peer educators for the following academic year. If you think you or someone you know would enjoy
spreading a safer sex/healthy sexuality message to the campus community, please give us a call! We usually begin interviewing just after spring break.
This is a one academic year commitment worth 3 credits. There is a mandatory training session for new peer educators held during the last week in August.
You begin working as a peer educator in September.
