Confidentiality and Release of Information
All services provided to students are confidential. All communication between you and your clinician are also strictly confidential. Issues of privacy and confidentiality are covered thoroughly in staff and volunteer training.
A confidential medical record is established and maintained for every patient who receives care. Separate records are maintained for the Mental Health Service, Substance Abuse Programs, and HIV testing. If you are 18 years or older, information cannot be released, even to your parents, without your permission. Information is released only with your written permission, upon a court ordered subpoena, or in a life threatening situation.
The University Health Center is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Please see the Notice of Privacy Practices for details.
