Internship Opportunity

Internship opportunities are available for all our volunteers that would like to earn college credit for their work. In addition to their volunteer application packet, interested students should submit a proposal (1 page long) of the project they would like to work on during the semester. Furthermore, students are responsible to complete all necessary procedures and documentation required by the school of their major.

During their internship with the Healthy Workers Program students will be required to perform the following tasks:

  1. Volunteer Duties: At least 5 hours of administrative tasks per week during the entire 15 weeks of the semester if they are earning 3 credits.
  2. Immersion Project:
    • Students will be required to develop a project that focuses on health and minority populations.
    • The topic will have to be approved by the Healthy Workers Program Coordinator before the beginning of the semester the student will do the internship.
    • If the student is earning Span 386 credit, the project will have to be done in Spanish.
    • The Immersion Project can be finished at any time during the semester. However, at the beginning of the semester an approximate date will be set. Two weeks before the estimated date, a final date and time for the classes will be set so that the appropriate advertising fliers could be distributed.
    • The student will have to hold at least 4 classes (30 minutes long) during the semester.
    • All the materials needed to display the information for the class, posters, brochures, flyers, will be provided by the program. A week before the class will take place the student should submit all material that is to be photocopied.

Please note that if all the requirements for the internship are not completed during the semester--that is, not enough office hours or number of classes--credit will no be given to the student for that semester. The student can choose to receive and incomplete for that semester and arrange to complete all missing requirements at another time. Or, the student can drop the class retroactively at the end of the semester (The last day to submit this request is the last day of classes for that semester).
