General InfoAppointmentsYou must make an appointment to be seen at the Health Center. Your University ID number is required when scheduling an appointment. Making an appointment reduces the time you wait to be seen. Same day appointments are usually available. Urgent Care services are available without an appointment for evaluation of urgent medical needs.
The appointments desk is open 8am to 4pm, Monday - Friday. Missed Appointment FeeThere is a fee for missing, canceling, or changing an appointment ($10 for most services, $25 for acupuncture and massage). To avoid a charge, appointments must be canceled or changed at least 24 hours in advance.
To cancel an appointment, please call the same number that you called to make the appointment. ConfidentialityAll services provided to students are confidential. All communication between you and your clinician are also strictly confidential. Issues of privacy and confidentiality are covered thoroughly in staff and volunteer training. A confidential medical record is established and maintained for every patient who receives care. Separate records are maintained for the Mental Health Service, Substance Abuse Programs, and HIV testing. If you are 18 years or older, information cannot be released even to your parents without your permission. Information is released only with your written permission, upon a court ordered subpoena, or in a life threatening situation. The University Health Center is compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Please see the Notice of Privacy Practices for details. CostEvery currently registered student is eligible to use the University Health Center. Students are charged a $10 fee for most visits with our providers. Fees vary for visits with specialists and for certain procedures such as x-rays, laboratory tests, allergy injections, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, some health education programs, and medications dispensed through the pharmacy and medical units. Some services may be covered by the UnitedHealthcare student insurance plan. A visitor's fee is charged to anyone who is not currently registered as a student. Fees for services can be billed to the student's account in the Bursar's Office. Students may pay their bill by cash, check, Terrapin Express, or credit card, at the Pharmacy.
To protect patient privacy, charges are listed on student accounts under general billing categories such as "laboratory fee" and "pharmacy charge" rather than naming the specific test or purchase. If you require a referral for treatment off campus or admission to a hospital, you are responsible for any bills you incur. The University Health Center assumes no financial responsibility for care you receive off campus. Students are encouraged to purchase Health Insurance to defray the cost of their health care. UnitedHealthcare provides health insurance designed for University of Maryland, College Park students.
